About Sports Therapy
Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness, regardless of age and ability.
It focuses on managing, manipulating, and rehabilitating soft tissues in the body, such as muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Treatment can help alleviate pain, improve performance, and prevent injury.
Massage techniques before and after exercise can also enhance performance, aid in recovery, and correct imbalances and problems in soft tissue caused by physical activity and trauma, along with aiding relaxation.
At My Therapy, I offer a range of personalized treatments that can be adjusted during your appointment to meet your specific needs.

FAQ's
Where are you based, and what facilities are available?
I'm thrilled to welcome you to My Therapy, based inside Flex Pilates & Physiotherapy, Hillsborough. There is plenty of road parking nearby and toilet facilities on site. If you arrive early, please wait in the reception area and I will come out for you as soon as I'm available.
What's the difference between the different massages?
A Sports Massage targets specific problem areas and injuries, addressing postural issues and realigning tissues to alleviate pain and discomfort. On the other hand, a Deep Tissue Massage applies firm pressure and is typically a full-body massage. Meanwhile, a Therapeutic Massage is a gentle touch that aims to relax the entire body.
What should I expect from a Sports Injury Treatment session?
First, we will discuss your injury during the appointment. Then, I will conduct a physical assessment of your injury, posture, and movement function. After that, I will administer the necessary treatment and give you some rehabilitation tips to practice at home, and if needed book you in for a follow up appointment.
Does a massage hurt?
Experiencing soreness or discomfort during a massage is common, especially when deeper techniques are used on problematic areas. I will check in with you during the massage, but please let me know if the pressure is too intense. Additionally, feeling soreness for a day or two after the massage is normal, and it is recommended to drink plenty of water.
What should I wear?
To ensure comfort during the session, it is recommended to wear loose clothing, such as shorts. For female clients, it is suggested to wear a regular bra that can be easily unfastened to access the back muscles. Rest assured that privacy will be provided for changing, and a towel will be used at all times to maintain modesty.
How often should I receive treatments?
The frequency of treatment sessions depends on your personal needs and the type of treatment you are having. For massage clients, some will come once per week, or for regular maintenance, scheduling a massage every 2-6 weeks can be beneficial. Additionally, keep in mind that treatments can have psychological benefits and aid in relaxation and stress relief.
